Back Posture Secret:
I come across a lot of things during the course of the day, but when I find something I really like, I always try to pass it on… As you can see from the left, these are the varying kinds of healthy to unhealthy posture you will see. I would be willing to bet you have one of these unhealthy types of posture to some degree or another and that is what leads to back pain.
So, how do you get to that nice picture on the right with “good posture”. If you just try and stand up straight, it’s pretty hard and even more difficult to hold for more than a few seconds. Obviously, it takes more than that or else everyone would just do it and be fine.
But, the reality is that the muscles tend to set into bad positions through years of misuse and disuse. It takes time to fix it and you have to be targeted with the muscles, so that you get the best results. Obviously, that’s what the S.M.S. Low back System I created is all about. But, I found a really cool tip that can help people right away, so I wanted to share that with you now.
Try this: go somewhere that you can see yourself in a mirror. That’s important, because just because it “feels” good, does not mean it looks good. In fact, the more weird it feels, the more right it may be. Remember, your muscles are going to fight good posture in the short term, because they have gotten used to be stuck in a bad position. So, don’t just go off feel. You have to see it.
Okay, so if you are in front of a mirror, check yourself out from the side. Ideally, take off your shirt. What do you see? Does it resemble any of the pictures above? Probably, and that’s why you’re reading this in the first place. But, it’s really good to see it for yourself. Okay, now look away from the mirror and try this…
Squeeze your butt muscles as hard as you can and straighten your feet. You may feel this on the outside part of your thighs. That’s okay. Now, pull your shoulders down as far as possible. Finally, turn your wrists so that your palms face in front of you, instead of behind you. Now, look in the mirror again. Do you see a big difference? Try to hold it for a few seconds and then let go. I know it’s hard to hold for more than a few moments.
If you saw a big improvement in your posture, that’s awesome. Try to remember how different it feels than your “normal” position. It will give you an idea of how far you have to go, but the good news is you can do it! And fixing your posture not only looks way better, that is the secret key to getting out of back pain!
